- Obituary.
Mr Peter Brisbane.
There passed away at her son's (Cr W. G. Brisbane's) residence, Murchison, on the 14th inst, another of the pioneer residents of the district (says the " Advertiser"), in the person of Mrs Mary Augusta Clara Brisbane. The deceased lady had suffered from an internal complaint for some considerable time past, and had been confined to her bed for the last six weeks. Several times during the last few weeks her life had been despaired of, and the end, which came as above stated, was therefore not unexpected, and must have come as a happy release from acute suffering. The late Mrs Brisbane was a native of Gorletz, Germany, at which place she was born in the year 1844, she therefore being 71 years of age at the time of her death. With her parents she came to Australia in 1848 (which makes her a colonist of 67 years standing), and after spending quite a number of years on the many then thriving goldfields, of which she had a lively recollection, came to reside in the Murchison district in 1882—33 years ago. During her long residence in the district, the deceased lady made quite a host of friends, her nature being such as to know her was to respect her, and although she had passed the allotted span of three score years and ten, her death will be deplored. She leaves a family of four sons, viz, Harold, Edgar, Cr W. G. and Arnold, to mourn their great loss, and for them the deepest sympathy is expressed. The funeral took place on Thursday, the remains being interred in the Murchison cemetery, and were followed to their last resting place by a large cortege of mourners. The service at the graveside was read by the Rev F. C. Vickerman.
