      Gloucester Family History Journal, No. 40, March 1989 - written by Mrs. J. Blanchard, Minchinhampton, Stroud, Glos.

      "Henry was the third son of a family of seven children of Samuel and Elizabeth Twissell, both of whom were born and lived in the parish of Bisley until their marriage in 1835. Afterwards they made their home in Cainscross, where they brought up their seven children, and lived there until they died....

      "Did [Henry] ever wonder about his ancestors? Whether he cared or not, there is an intriguing mystery about his paternal grandfather. In January 1813 at Bisley Church, Samuel HUNT, a weaver married Eleanor FORESHAW, both of the parish of Bisley. Their family of 6 boys and 5 girls arrived between the years of 1814 and 1830. However, some time before 1821, for some inexplicable reason, Samuel Hunt and his family took upon themselves the name of Twissell. When the time came for the three eldest children to marry, Harriet in 1837, George in 1844, and William in 1845, the marriage register enters them all as "HUNT-TWISSELL"s. When the next generation came along, the "Hunt" was dropped, they were baptised as "Twissell"s, including the above mentioned Sgt. Major Henry.

      "The descendants of Samuel Hunt and his wife Eleanor have spread to many corners of the world, including Utah U.S., Pasadena California, Malta, King Williamstown, S. A., and many areas in the U.K. some still in the Cainscross and Stroud areas. Have any of them any theory about Samuel Hunt's extraordinary and mysterious decision 150 years ago?"
