    • THE WYALONG- GOLDFIELD.
AN EXCITING CHASE AFTER A THIEF. DEATH FROM TYPHOID.
BARMEDMAN, Tuesday. — Some excitement was caused at Wyalong West on Sunday night, when the report of two shots from a revolver were heard in the main street. A local butcher had been losing goods from his shop, and last night he got the police to watch. After midnight, a man came to the shop, which has an open front, and, coolly taking a carcass of mutton on his shoulder, started for home with it. The policeman called on him to stop, but the thief ran away. The policeman in following fell over some timber, and the thief, dropping the sheep, ran on, gaining ground. The policeman then fired two shots In the air, calling to the man to surrender, but the fellow escaped. A man was arrested yesterday, charged with being the thief. The man Sharp, who had been suffering from typhoid fever, died on Sunday night, and was buried yesterday.

Death has claimed another member of our community, the victim in this case being a miner named James Sharp. He had been suffering for some lime before the exact nature of his ailment was discovered, and latterly had been under the care of Dr. Cooper. The father of deceased was with him during his illness, and some neighbours had very kindly assisted in nursing the sick man. A few days since. his mother, who resided near Orange, was sent for and she arrived some time previous to his death. The funeral took place yesterday evening. The cause of death was typhoid.
