Arthur Sargent (1865-1918)
DEATH OF Mr. ARTHUR SARGENT
Quite a gloom was cast over Cargo and district when it became known that one of their most highly respected residents in the person of Mr. Arthur Sargent had breathed his last on Thursday morning of last week in the Orange District Hospital, after about twelve months painful suffering from chest and lung trouble.
Deceased was only 53 years of age. He was born in England and came to Australia when quite an infant. For over 30 years he successfully carried on a blacksmith's business. The late Mr. Sargent was a member of the Church of England, was good-hearted and generous, and ever ready to do a kind turn. The death of another one of the good old pioneers will
be much regretted. He leaves a wife and family of eight children as follows :- Mrs. Fred Bartlett, Mrs. Will Bartlett (Byron Bay), Misses Eva and Pearl (Cargo), Les, Cecil, Oswald, and Jack (Cargo), and two sisters, Mrs.
Elliott (Lidcombe), Mrs. Lee (Balmain), and two brothers, Alfred (Sydney), Thomas (West Australia) to mourn their irreparable loss. The remains were interred in the Church of England cemetery at Cargo on Friday. A son (Arthur) was killed at the war 18 months ago.
